Daddy's Health

Hi Everyone,

Daddy saw Dr. Mousa today and got the results of the CAT scan. The doc said the scan looked very good and that he is officially in remission. Daddy will be followed very closely and will be seen every three months for observation. His emphysema showed on the scan and is the reason for his shortness of breath. He also has an aortic aneurysm, which is a bulge in the aorta. It is potentially dangerous, but surgery to correct it would be very risky. He can live with it for a very long time – if he keeps his blood pressure in check. I tattled and told the doc he hasn’t been taking his meds regularly, to which the doc responded that he absolutely must do so from now on.

As you can imagine, Daddy is in a very different frame of mind this afternoon than he has been for a long time. I think his depression is going to lessen, especially if he keeps taking the Celexa. He needs to avoid exertion but can take care of his horses and dogs.

I have been doing the cleaning a little at a time and have decided to hire someone to help me do a deep cleaning. Maybe Daddy will get used to having someone around and even let her in once a week to clean! I know, but weirder things have happened.

My goal is to have someone cleaning regularly and a home health nurse visiting – unless he falls in line and takes the meds regularly. I also would like to start a discussion with y’all about some kind of predictable schedule for visits here, as he get depressed if he doesn’t know when or if anyone is coming. Getting here from Tampa was relatively easy so I will do it regularly. I figure if each of us can come a few times a year, he will be okay. However, this may not be possible for everyone and I want to know how you want to do this.

I’ve created this blog as a way to communicate with each other better. If you have never used a blog before, it is really easy. I use them with my students all the time. You all are signed in as users and this is a private blog – in other words, only official users have access. You all can post messages, pictures, or comment on other messages. The tabs above will help you post in a dialogue box, which is very user-friendly. If you find this cumbersome, feel free not to participate. If you just need a little help getting started, call me.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Love,

Suzanne
